ensemble resonanz is among the most prolific progressive orchestras around the world. Residents of Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie, the ensemble operates at the vanguard of Neue Musik, experimental staging techniques and club culture.
In a time of isolation and retreat, ensemble resonanz expanded its scope of artistic work to immersive digital projects. We were comissioned to build a home for these works, deepening our original concept of a split website. Emerging from a full rewrite, the new version revolves around a design system that is rigid in its geometric language and freeing in its options for expression. We revisited our existing design ideas, turning them into simpler and more direct tools in the capable hands of the client.
On ensembleresonanz.com, basic information and transactional interaction is organized in a half-width grid. Its strict limitations permanently allude to the freedom that looms beyond them, and is characteristic of the ensemble's work. Users following this thread to resonanz.digital are rewarded with a deep network of media content, interactive performances and insight into the minds of the individuals (and machines) producing Hamburg's most enticing musical program.
The site purposefully blurs the line between art and documentation, reflecting the collaborative spirit that permeates projects initiated by the ensemble. All told, resonanz.digital presents the mental universe of Ensemble Resonanz in an approachable, yet highly idiosyncratic way.
